The Retouching Process: Keeping It Natural


My approach to retouching for boudoir is all about subtlety and authenticity. With a background as a freelance retoucher, I have the skill to edit images to a magazine-polished finish if requested, but my preference (and what I believe captures the true essence of boudoir) is to keep images looking raw and natural. My goal is to enhance your beauty, not erase it.


During the retouching process, I focus on temporary distractions that aren’t part of your everyday loook, like scratches, bruises, and the occasional blemish or razor burn. If it won’t be on your body in a few weeks, it won’t show up in your final images. I leave your skin’s natural texture and unique features, highlighting your own beauty rather than altering it to fit a standard.

I believe boudoir is about embracing yourself as you are, capturing the confidence, sensuality, and authenticity you bring to the session. I want these photos to really feel like you. So while each image will look polished and flattering, it will always reflect who you genuinely are. Unless you ask for something specific to be removed like a birthmark or tattoo.


Retouching should never take away what makes you, you. I see beauty in the small details. Laugh lines tell a story of past joys, freckles that have danced in the sun, and the way light naturally falls across your skin. They're not flaws; they're part of your essence. My goal isn’t to create an unrealistic version of you but to bring out the best in what’s already there. By keeping the integrity of your image intact, I ensure that when you look at your photos, you see yourself, not a you with every blemish and pore removed.

Every edit I make is intentional. I adjust contrast to enhance the mood, clean up small distractions to keep the focus on you, and refine tones to bring out a natural, luminous quality. But I won’t smooth away the texture of your skin or reshape your body into something it’s not. Your boudoir session is a celebration of you, in this moment, as you are. My approach to retouching reflects that belief—because your beauty doesn’t need to be fixed, only highlighted.


At the end of the day, it’s still you, just with a little less razor burn and a little more drama. Because let’s be real, you were already the masterpiece. I'm just dusting off the frame.
